Whether it’s your first time or you’re returning for more adventures, here are the top things you shouldn’t miss in London.

Bundle activities together so you can see the most of London

One of the best tips I can offer is to get a Go City pass. It covers many of London’s top attractions (over 100 on the list!) and is a fantastic way to save money.

When I was in the city, it helped me save a significant amount while allowing me to explore some of the most iconic places.

The Go City pass gives you access to St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and even The View from The Shard. These are must-see landmarks that give you a deep sense of London’s history and beauty. The pass is super convenient and can really make your trip more affordable while ensuring you don’t miss out on these incredible experiences.

Iconic landmarks to visit

When in London, St. Paul’s Cathedral is a must-see. Its stunning architecture and rich history make it one of the most recognizable churches in the world. The interior is just as breathtaking as the exterior, and climbing to the top for panoramic views is well worth it.

Next up is the Tower of London, another essential stop on your London tour. This historic fortress is home to the Crown Jewels and centuries of intriguing stories. A visit here transports you back in time, giving you a glimpse of London’s royal history. Plan to spend quite a few hours because there are tons of building to explore.

Westminster Abbey is another iconic location you can’t miss. This is where British monarchs are crowned and where many are laid to rest.

The Gothic architecture is awe-inspiring, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by centuries of history within its walls. Make sure you check out the tombs on the ground because I’m sure you’ll recognize some names like Steven Hawking

If I recommend one place, especially with limited time, this is the coolest well-known attraction in London.

And for the best views of London, head to The Shard. The Go City pass includes access to the viewing platform, and from here, you’ll get to see the entire city laid out before you. It’s one of the best ways to capture the essence of London in a single view.

Big Ben: a tour you haven’t heard of

While the Big Ben landmark is well-known, many visitors don’t realize that you can actually go up Big Ben for a tour. This is a relatively new experience and offers a rare opportunity to explore one of London’s most famous landmarks.

Short enough to read over coffee. Useful enough to save.

The tour allows you to see the iconic clock tower up close, including the bells that chime every hour. It’s an exclusive experience, as only about 15 people are allowed on each tour.

Because of its popularity, make sure to book a few months in advance to secure your spot. Trust me, it’s worth the planning!

Explore Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace

If you’re looking for a more leisurely experience, make sure to visit Hyde Park. It’s one of the largest and most beautiful parks in London, perfect for a peaceful walk, picnic, or boat ride on the Serpentine. It’s a great place to unwind after exploring the city’s bustling streets.

Just nearby is Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarch. You can watch the Changing of the Guard ceremony, which is a classic London experience. If you’re visiting during the summer months, you might even be able to take a tour inside the palace itself.

What to do with more time in London

If you have more than just a few days in London, there’s plenty more to explore. Consider visiting some of the city’s world-class museums, like the British Museum, where you can see everything from ancient artifacts to modern art.

The Natural History Museum is another excellent stop, especially if you’re traveling with children or have a love for science. While it’s cool for all ages, kids in particular love to visit that museum and see all the dinosaur bones.

If you’re a fan of vibrant street markets, Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill is a must-visit. Famous for its antiques, vintage fashion, and fresh food stalls, this bustling market offers a unique shopping experience.

It’s the perfect spot to pick up a one-of-a-kind souvenir or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere. Whether you’re hunting for a rare find or just want to soak in the local culture, Portobello Road is a great place to spend a few hours during your stay in London.

Another great spot to visit is Covent Garden, a lively area filled with street performers, shops, and restaurants. It’s a fantastic place to experience the energy of London and pick up some unique souvenirs.

For a different perspective of the city (and you can use the Go City pass for this too), take a ride on the London Eye, a giant Ferris wheel that offers stunning views of the River Thames and beyond. It’s a great way to see London from above, and it’s especially beautiful at night when the city lights up.
