A Quick Visit to The Home of Blues, Clarksdale, MS

This visit was short lived, so the post will be too. I’m glad I stopped through the birthplace of Blues music though, it was interesting to see such a small town in Mississippi.

Where to Stay

I spent the night there at a hostel called Auberge. The building was a bit hidden, definitely quite the subtle entrance, without any major sign. There is blues that plays every night, and I could hear it clearly form my hostel. The hostel was almost entirely empty, aside from a small group of French people who were sitting in the lobby when I arrived. I had my whole room to myself, and everything gave off a bit of ghost town vibe.

Quick Bite

Since the town is so small, everything is less than a 5 minute walk. The food options weren’t great, I went to Yazoo Pass which was definitely alright and a good option considering. I took a quick walk around the city and grabbed some coffee.

I really wish there were better food options. I’d suggest heading out of town if you want something good to eat… but it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, so plan to drive a ways away.

What’s Cool About it?

The street murals alone were worth stopping through here, there is art on almost every street, every building side, etc. The Clark Mansion was down the road (I think it doubled as a community college), but it was nice to see and there was a plaque about Tennessee Williams who was on the Mississippi Writers Trail. 24 hours was definitely enough time to spend here.

Apparently there are a lot of music festivals held here for Blues music, so the town is seriously popping during those few moments.
