Happy to announce my first ever guest post, a big thanks to Elliott for being the first!
When you go off travelling, it’s awfully easy to quit the grounded routines we made back at home.
The diet, the workout and the mindful practices are first to go. It’s as if we suddenly stop caring about our most important assets – The Mind, Body and Soul!
Which is strange, as these three disregarded habits are what keeps us sane, connected and feel good. Yet arguably, the most important one out of the three is the way we stay grounded.
Sure, diet and working out are important. The way we talk to ourselves and our relation to this wonderful creation that is life, underpins everything.
So in this article, you’ll find the best ways to stay grounded to yourself and the Universe.
Take Time Out in Nature
The easiest and most powerful way to reconnect with life is taking time out in nature. Remember that we came from the ground. We are deeply rooted to it, in both physical and metaphysical ways.
There are a plethora of studies that show how getting outside is not only healthy, but vital.
Just take your recent ancestors. They would be outside working most of the day, whether hunting, farming or socializing. Our bodies have evolved to be a part of nature. Spending time in it lowers our stress physically and mentally. It’s also free.
Exercise more
This one comes under nature because the best way to do it is by walking. You can habit stack by walking through a woodland or meadow, without music, and take in the environment.
I’m sure there have been times where you’ve been moved so much by a scene, that you could feel emotions welling up. There is no coincidence here, nature heals us deeper than both physical and mental.
It heals us at the soul’s level.
Without getting too deep, nature is alive, it vibrates at a harmonious resonance to our souls. It’s why after a walk in nature your mood improves and you feel inspired.
Though back to exercise. Humans have been designed to move. It’s unnatural for us to be sitting at desks all day or doing fixed, repetitive movements that destroy our posture.
Moving promotes your health, makes you stronger, decreases stress, improves blood flow, improves creativity and quality of thoughts amongst other benefits.
Again, think back to an early human. If they sat around all day, we would not have got very far; evolutionarily speaking.
And if you’re short on time, go for a walk, or a run or get a gym membership. The point here is that as long as you’re making an effort to move, your connection to your health, mind, soul and the Higher Power (If you believe in one) will improve.
Take Time to Write a Journal
Upon rising, write all of the things that you are grateful for. And I mean anything, the sky, the ground, the air you breathe, your family…. Whatever.

Even now, get out your journal and think of five things that you love so much and put it out on a piece of paper.
Once you’ve done that, how do you feel?
I’m willing to bet that you feel better than before. By acknowledging what you have and know could be taken away, implants an incredibly powerful thought pattern. Not only that, but you are letting the Higher Power know that you don’t take it for granted.
Gratitude is a high frequency state of mind, and the higher up you get. The closer to the Creator you become. The higher you feel, in terms of gratitude, authenticity and love, the better you will perform in life. It’s a no brainer.
Another great way to journal is by adding a power list each morning. A list of non-negotiables that start the day with a bang. Even writing out the list could be a win.
By starting your day in this way, you program your mind to look forward to the challenges that may lie ahead. And in this state of mind, you become nearly unstoppable. Problems are ready to be solved, people understood and you’ll be more likely to give yourself grace if you fall short.
After the power list, write down some affirmations that make you feel inspired. These should be goal specific and created with your own imagination and feeling.
Each time you read and repeat them, they trigger a feeling that you can. And will. It also impresses upon your subconscious positive thoughts, which will run in the background of your life.
Think of a computer, negative thoughts are like running your PC on Windows XP. Positive programming is about upgrading the current software.
Best part is, you can choose the system you run in the background. It just starts with need to improve, a thought, a pen and paper.
So get started!
