When I visited this little town in Spain last year, I did what any other sane woman would do. I scouted out the best places to watch the sun set in Jàvea right away so I could romanticizing my life properly.
If chasing sunsets could be a career, I’d really be onto something. Now I’d love to share my passion with you.
Want to catch the sun set in Jàvea?
I’ve spent quite a few months in this little town and caught dozens of sunsets. From hike-able moments to tall areas to the beaches, I tested out a bunch of different spots.
The easiest way to catch a sunset is by car. Having a car makes accessing these spots much easier and means you don’t have to walk home in the dark.

The easiest way to get to Jàvea is by flying into Valencia, and renting a car from there. The roads to Jàvea are fairly easy from here rather than the bigger cities like Barcelona.

Now let’s discuss the best sun sets in Jàvea, Spain
I tried tons of areas to see the sunset here, and this list is my top 5 places to watch the sunset (and sunrise!) in Jàvea, Spain:
1. Ermita de Santa Lucia
First up, we have my most frequently-visited sunset location, Ermita de Santa Lucia. It’s located a bit up in the town, so it’s not the best access if you’re near the beach, but the views are unparalleled.
By car, you can reach near the bottom of this short hike to the church. Otherwise, you can walk up in about 30 minutes depending on where you are in Old Town.
This church has provided me with consistently gorgeous views since you can see the town, Montgo Mountain, and even the ocean!
After June, the sun goes a bit behind the mountain for a few months, so you might not see the full thing, but the colors are still gorgeous from up there. I’d recommend this spot especially if you’re planning a visit outside of the summer months.
Make sure you leave at least 30 minutes to catch this view since it can take a little bit to get up the hill. The hike isn’t too strenuous, but it can be a little steep at points. I rarely ever wore hiking clothes for it, so you probably don’t need to take it too seriously.
TLDR: The best sunset view in Jàvea is up at Ermita de Santa Lucia if you’re willing to do a short hike, or want to rent a car to catch the views.
2. Playa del Arenal
My next favorite classic spot to catch the sun set in Jàvea is on the popular beach in town, Playa Arenal.
This beach never lets me down, and the colors are always brilliant, whether the sunsets are situated behind Montgo Moutain or in front of it.
Similar to the church, the sun starts to hide behind the mountain in the summer, so you might not see the full sun. Pre-summer is the best time to catch it before it goes totally behind it.
For the best views of the sun setting over the ocean, make sure you keep walking past the shops and go out onto the rocks with the stairs past that touristy area.

If you don’t want to miss it, make sure you leave enough time to walk along the rocks to get the view with Montgo behind it because that takes around 10 minutes.
If you’re in a time crunch, you should plan to drive to the top, and you’ll find super easy parking up there.
This location offers a view over all of Jàvea on one side and all of Dénia on the other side, it’s magnificent. The view showcases the marina below with all the boats, and when it gets really dark the whole city is lit up with lights.
Anytime of day, this is a gorgeous view, but when the sun is setting or rising, it’s even better.
4. Molins De La Plana
Molins De La Plana is my next favorite spot to catch a gorgeous sunrise. It happens to be another hike, but it’s a really cool way to see the whole area.
This spot showcases a ton of stone buildings that were once windmills that overlook the city.
This hike is a bit more strenuous than the others, but it’s another great way to see the city and learn a bit of history while you’re there. The hike also overlooks the marina from a different vantage point.
If you’d rather drive, this is another spot you can access by car. This is another reason I would recommend you rent a car when you’re here if you don’t want to hike to all these spots, and want to see more of the area.
While I wasn’t able to snap a photo at sunset, the viewpoint makes it a great spot to catch one. Just be aware that some sunsets are better than others, so make sure you have good conditions to see it that day!
This area is well worth a quick journey, and it’s especially nice if you are driving through the mountain.
If it’s the summer and it’s hard to see the sun because it’s behind Montgo Mountain, then this is a great alternative since the sun isn’t covered up here.
The best way to visit this spot is to pull off the side of the road, where there is a small section that has views of the whole valley. It’s perfect for snapping a few pics or just hanging out and enjoying it.
The sunset awaits
Now that you have a few options to choose from, go out and enjoy those brilliant colors. While I can’t guarantee that every sunset is going to offer the same golden glows that I’ve gotten, you’ve got some pretty high chances.
If you want to see a nice sunrise too, the first 4 options are also perfect for a good sunrise since the sun rises over the ocean on this side of the country. It’s well worth heading out for early morning.
