Where can I watch the sun set in the NorthShore?

One of the most gorgeous views in the area, and easy to get to (with free parking!). There is some history to learn about here too, and at least 180-270° views over the water.

There are plenty of benches and grassy spaces to sit down and have a picnic, or you can just watch from your car if it’s a bit chilly or crowded. The causeway getting to this part of Marblehead (the neck) also boasts some outrageous views.

A bit up the coast from Boston, starting out what I would consider as Northshore territory is Nahant. This is the Causeway that faces Boston directly and has some gorgeous views of the city as well as some beautiful sunsets (weather permitting).

This is my most frequented sunset spot. In the summer, it becomes more of a carnival area with an arcade and some food spots. There are tennis and basketball courts and a little beach, lots of benches and barbecues too. I highly recommend, the sunsets never disappoint.

You can’t neglect the best part of being on the Northshore, the ability to get on a boat. There are plenty of options (although this boat was reserved for an event). If you want to go with some friends, I would suggest doing the Schooner Tour since it operates at sunset, and it’s pretty affordable. You can also just take the Salem Ferry to/from Boston.

If you drive up the coast a bit, you’ll come across the best beach in the North Shore – Singing Beach. Parking can be a bit tough in the summer, you usually need a permit to park during the on-season (or plan to walk a mile from downtown). Off- season always has parking at sunset, so it’s very easy and not too crowded. There are lots of dogs during off season too!

This sunset wasn’t one that I planned to see, which is always the best kind. There is limited paid parking nearby, but it’s a little bit of a hike to get in, so plan a bit in advance. It’s so beautiful here, great for hiking any time of day… just don’t get caught in the dark.

I love this little park, but it also doubles as a beautiful place to see the sunset. Come here all times of day. Sadly, the parking is not available to non-residents during the summer months, so expect a little walk. You can park by Independence Park (you can see the sunset there too, but this is a fan favorite).

It can get quite crowded in the summer too, so expect there to be some people.

While it’s a bit further north than the other spots, it’s a whole adventure itself. I prefer sunrise here (or just in general on the east coast), but it still features an incredible view, even if you can’t see the sun go down. I would recommend it from sunrise to sunset if you can make it at the beach that long.

In Marblehead, (with limited parking) is a beautiful place with a little dock and lots of benches and grassy areas to watch the sun set. This photo was taken from the Yacht Club next door, but it offers a similar view. It’s a great place to overlook the sunset.

There are lots of events here in the summer, so it can get a little crowded. Plan ahead always.

I have to point out my favorite place that I’ve seen the sky light up with color, and that is over at Old Orchard Beach in Maine. While an hour and a half can sound long to some, it’s still nearby along the coast and it’s by far my favorite place for some gorgeous color. The sunrises are equally brilliant.
