Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Our Great Perhaps, operated by Liz Long ("I", "me", "my"), collects, uses, and shares information about you when you visit ourgreatperhaps.com (the "Site"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here.
I take your privacy seriously. This policy is designed to comply with applicable privacy laws including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the UK GDPR, Canada's PIPEDA, and other applicable laws.
1. Information I Collect
Information you provide directly
When you subscribe to my newsletter, submit a contact form, or otherwise communicate with me, I collect:
Your first name and email address, and any additional information you choose to provide in a message.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, certain information is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies, including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, pages visited, time spent on pages, referring URLs, and general geographic location (country or city level).
This information is collected through Google Analytics. It is aggregated and anonymous — I cannot identify you personally from this data.
Cookies
The Site uses cookies. Please see my Cookie Policy for full details on what cookies are set, why, and how to control them.
2. How I Use Your Information
I use the information I collect to send you the newsletter and content you signed up for, respond to your questions and enquiries, understand how visitors use the Site so I can improve it, comply with legal obligations, and protect the security and integrity of the Site.
I will never sell your personal data to third parties. I will never use your data for purposes other than those described in this policy without first obtaining your consent.
3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, I process your personal data under the following legal bases:
Consent — where you have given clear consent, such as signing up for the newsletter or accepting cookies.
Legitimate interests — for analytics to understand Site usage, provided your rights and interests do not override mine.
Legal obligation — where processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.
You have the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
4. Newsletter and Email Marketing
If you subscribe to my newsletter, your name and email address are stored and managed through Kit (formerly ConvertKit), a third-party email marketing platform. Kit is GDPR compliant and acts as a data processor on my behalf.
You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email, or by emailing me at liz@ourgreatperhaps.com. Upon unsubscribing, your data will be removed from my mailing list.
Kit's privacy policy is available at kit.com/privacy.
5. Affiliate Links and Advertising
Some links on the Site are affiliate links. This means I may earn a small commission if you click through and make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products and services I genuinely use or believe in.
All affiliate relationships are disclosed in accordance with the FTC's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials and the ASA guidelines (UK). Posts containing affiliate links include a disclosure statement at the top.
I do not run display advertising. The Site is not monetised through ad networks.
6. Third-Party Services
The Site uses the following third-party services which may independently collect data:
Google Analytics — website traffic analysis. Data is anonymised where possible. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Kit (ConvertKit) — email marketing. Privacy policy at kit.com/privacy.
SiteGround — website hosting. Privacy policy at siteground.com/privacy.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy and I encourage you to review them.
7. Data Transfers
I am based in the United States. If you are located in the EEA, UK, or elsewhere, your information may be transferred to and processed in the US, which may not have the same data protection laws as your country. Where required, I rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards to protect transferred data.
8. Data Retention
I retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide you with the services you requested or as required by law. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention settings.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Right to access — you can request a copy of the personal data I hold about you.
Right to rectification — you can ask me to correct inaccurate data.
Right to erasure — you can request that I delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
Right to restrict processing — you can ask me to limit how I use your data.
Right to data portability — you can request your data in a portable format.
Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email me at liz@ourgreatperhaps.com. I will respond within 30 days. I may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
The right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold. The right to delete personal information. The right to opt out of the sale of personal information. The right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.
I do not sell personal information. To exercise your California privacy rights, contact me at liz@ourgreatperhaps.com.
11. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe I have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact me immediately and I will delete it.
12. Security
I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no internet transmission is completely secure and I cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Links to Other Websites
The Site contains links to third-party websites. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
14. Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top. Where changes are significant, I will make reasonable efforts to notify you (for example, via a notice on the Site or by email to newsletter subscribers).
15. Contact and Complaints
If you have any questions, concerns, or complaints about this Privacy Policy or how I handle your data, please contact me at liz@ourgreatperhaps.com.
If you are located in the EEA and are not satisfied with my response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
