First things first, if you’re visiting Rome, you need to get yourself a Go City pass. It saved me tons of money… that I ultimately spent on some delicious pasta, but saved nonetheless.

Roman-Style pizza: Where to get the best slice
No visit to Rome is complete without indulging in a slice of Roman-style pizza. But with so many tourist traps around, finding an authentic and budget-friendly slice can be tricky.
One of my top picks is Pizzeria La Boccaccia, where you can enjoy delicious focaccia-style pizza squares at an affordable price. This spot is perfect for grabbing a quick, satisfying bite while exploring the city.
Another great pizza option is Pizzeria Alle Carrette. Although it’s not Roman-style, the pizza here is fantastic, and the drinks are just as stellar. If you’re looking for another recommendation, Emma is another must-visit for pizza lovers. While they also offer pasta, their pizza is what keeps customers coming back.
Best value pasta: satisfy your Italian carb cravings
When in Rome, pasta is a must, and luckily, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a taste of authentic Italian cuisine.
One of the best budget-friendly spots for pasta is Pastificio Guerra. Known for its incredible takeaway pasta, their carbonara is an absolute must-try.
Be prepared for a line, but trust me, the wait is worth it. The portions are generous, so don’t make the mistake of ordering two!
Keep in mind, they only offer takeaway, there is no dining inside, so find a nice bench or a park!
Another fantastic option for affordable yet delicious pasta is Ristorante Piccolo Spazio. I had an incredible meal here on my last night in Rome, and the service was just as memorable as the food.
The staff was incredibly attentive, and the prices were low enough that I could indulge in multiple dishes.
For those in search of Rome’s best carbonara, head to Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina. It’s a bit pricier, but it’s well worth the splurge for their Michelin-star-worthy carbonara. Another spot worth checking out is Tonnarello in Trastevere, where the pasta is served in the pan for a rustic, authentic dining experience.
Arancini: the perfect Roman snack
I’m a big fan of arancini, and Rome didn’t disappoint when it came to these crispy, savory rice balls. One of the best spots I found was Mami, where their arancini were next-level delicious.
While Mami also serves pizza, their arancini is the real highlight. It’s an affordable, filling snack that’s perfect for when you’re on the go.
Gelato and desserts: treat your sweet tooth
No visit to Rome is complete without enjoying some gelato, and La Gelateria Frigidarium is one of the best places to grab this iconic Italian dessert.
The flavors are unique and absolutely delicious, but be prepared for a line. If you happen to see a short line, take advantage and get some gelato. T he wait can be long, but the gelato itself is worth it if you can avoid a crowd.
If you’re still craving something sweet, head next door to Two Sizes, where you’ll find some of the best tiramisu in Rome. They offer a variety of flavors, including peanut butter, coffee, and the classic original. They also serve cannoli and other pastries, so you’re sure to find something to satisfy your sweet tooth.
